Couch hunting

My back is sore because we have a crappy couch.  We're finally getting a new one soon because we're getting a large tax refund.  The problem is that neither Jake nor I really know what we like in couches.  I'm not really sure how to shop for a couch.  I've not really had that "aha!  This is it!" moment yet, and I'm not really sure if I should expect it.  I know which ones I certainly think are hideous, including the one that we saw yesterday that I swear was corduroy.  Gross.

We've looked at American, Sofa Mart, online at Sams Club, and at a discount store that has furniture that has been modeled in homes before.  Haven't really found anything yet.

Anyone have any good couch-hunting suggestions?

Find something uber comfortable. You're going to sit on it, and people will sleep on it when they visit :).

Uber-comfortable is good. Also, I'd say either something that will hide stains or is inexpensive enough that you don't care about getting messy. When we were little, my mom always said she'd get good furniture until we grew up, and now I understand why!

So I thought about my comment while I was cleaning the bathroom and realized how boring and old I'm getting. So I change my vote to get something wild and fun and impractical. :)

Leah, you are stinkin hilarious. I laughed real hard when I saw your post, and then laughed harder when I looked at you selections. I'm pretty sure the seesaw couch is my favorite. :)

Pam, I thought it was funny when I re-read your comment and realized that you thought about how "boring" you were getting while you were cleaning the bathroom. Very nice.

I have found two on craigslist that I really like. One is not with me anymore (the roommate took it with her) but the other one my current roommate is sitting on right now. Just be careful not to go to people's houses that want to kill you. Okay?
