Short story of the day

I just saw a guy on the Price is Right who was from Nipomo, CA.  I didn't catch his name, but he was a 55-65 year old white guy and I just thought it was kinda fun.  Maybe you would have known him Lisa- but of course he was WAY older than you are so maybe not. :)

That's my whole story.

The end.

It's hard to believe

that just last week I hadn't received any phone calls or job offers.  Since then, I have gotten a part-time job on the horizon, had 3 other interviews, and have one more scheduled within the next couple of weeks.  I've gotten offers on two of the interviews I had this week (both babysitting jobs), but it is getting complicated with not knowing about the interview that I have within the next couple of weeks (it's a counseling job).  Do I wait for that job and hope that I get it- or do I take the babysitting jobs in the meantime knowing that that could jeopardize my chances with this counseling agency?  And I still don't know whether I have an offer from the retail store I interviewed with earlier this week.  That could be a good transition job into a summer counseling job....

So now I'm asking for prayer for discernment!  I have to have some decisions made within the next couple of days not knowing what's going to happen with my interview for the counseling agency.  Praise God that I'm not asking for opportunities anymore, but that I'm asking for discernment!

If God lets any of you know what I should do, make sure and let me know. :)

I know I just blogged, but...

...I have something else I want to share.

I've lost 11 pounds in the past 5 weeks!!!  Hurray!!  I still have a ways to go to get back to my wedding weight (and a little further to get to my ideal weight), but I am SO excited that I broke the 10 pound mark this week.

We also officially start doing some jogging today in our marathon regimen, so I'm really excited to see how that goes.  Hopefully no shin pain!  We are just starting week 9 of our 38 week program (21% completed), so still have ways to go.  It's been fun so far, but I'm definitely ready to get out of the speed walking portion and get into the jogging portion. :)

Anyway, I'm really excited!

Slumber party

So dinner last night was especially yummy, just so you know. :)

The story from two nights ago... probably not going to be that funny to you, but it was a really fun night.  Jake and I were in bed and he had just rolled over and was probably very close to falling asleep.  Then, out of nowhere, he just rolled back over and started talking to me and laughing at everything I said.

This part is going to be confusing- so you're allowed to skip it if you want.  If you've seen the show Mad About You, you'll remember that there's a guy on there that every time he sees the Buchmans, he greets them by saying "Hey der, Mrs. Buchman.  Ho der Mr. Buchman."  It cracks us up.  Well, for some reason we were throwing out ways to great pheasants (much longer story), and so I said "hey der, ho der pheasants."  Jake laughed hysterically.

So then we were laughing pretty hard and it was getting pretty late, so I said:

Me: I feel like we're having a slumber party and we're 12 years old.
Jake: We are; should I fart?

Apparently that's what 12 year old boys do at slumber parties.  Anyway, I couldn't stop laughing.  It was pretty funny picturing Jake, age 12, and brothers and a few friends laying around farting and laughing.  I'm sure his brothers would have some funny stories about him when he was that age.  Any takers?  C'mon, dish the dirt! ;)

Sunday, February 21

"What's the soup of the day?" "It's the soup du jour." "Mmm, that sounds good; I'll have that."

So I have a story to tell about last night, but I have tell what just happened first.

I told Jake that I was going to cook dinner while he did his homework, but I haven't started cooking yet because I'm messing around on the internet.  Out of nowhere, the following conversation happens.

Jake: "Mmm, that smells good"
Me: "What does?" (confused)
Jake: "That food that you're cooking"
Me: "Are you being a butthole?"

Then we laughed hysterically.  I wasn't sure if he was actually being a jerk or making a joke.  Turns out he was making a joke.

Now I suppose I better cook dinner before I tell the story about last night.

Jurispru-annoying-dence exam

I hate DORA.  I hate taking this silly jurisprudence exam that even though it is open-book, is the hardest exam I have ever taken in my life.  I've passed comps and the NCE exam, how much more proof does Colorado need to know that I'm not going to completely biff it as an unlicensed psychotherapist?

Ok, I don't really hate DORA.  I appreciate that professionals have certain standards that they must meet before they can start practicing.  I just don't like how long this exam is taking.  In this past hour, I have answered 4 questions.

Only 31 more questions to go.

BAH.

Job

I have a part-time contracting job now!  Because of extensive background tests and things that need to get in order, I probably won't start seeing clients for 3 months and won't get paid until after that, but at least I have something on the horizon.  I also have an interview for a retail store on Monday, so we'll see how that goes.

If you want more details, you can contact me, but that's about all I want to put on my blog. :)

Funny boy

Jake is watching an episode of Lost on his computer right now.  He apparently has the volume turned up as high as he possibly can, but is still having a hard time hearing it.  When the heat turned on in our apartment, Jake did the following to help him hear.

Here's a picture of me imitating him because at first he wouldn't let me take a picture of him.

I think he is much more obviously watching an actual show because of the look on his face.  I also really enjoyed making fun of his "oh no, John, don't do it!"  He's never that way with any other show, and when I'm not watching it at the same time, it's pretty funny to hear commentary.

Anyway, this post is not to humiliate him so much as to show the world how funny he is.  I think he's hilarious.  So there.

Sweet addiction

I think it's coming true.  We really are becoming addicted to coffee.  Because it's SO good!  I realized that we had crossed the line when we bought some Starbucks coffee (it was on sale at a great price!), but we bought decaf so that we could have it in the afternoon/evening without worrying about being able to fall asleep at night.  Apparently it is no longer something we have to wake us up; it is now something we have because we LOVE it.

Here is an example of how it's comforting.  I wrote Jake an email earlier today because I realized that I had forgotten to send in for my rebate on my contact lenses (DRAT).  I was really bummed because it was a $60 rebate and that was money I was counting on having.  I sent Jake an email apologizing that I forgot and told him how bummed I was.  This was his response.

"It's okay, babe.  I still love you.  And we can still have coffee this afternoon."

Wow.

p.s. Jake got me a $10 Caribou Coffee giftcard for Christmas so that I could walk over and use their internet and be around people (extrovert in me) as I look for a job.  I still have $5 left.  Knowing how much I love coffee, I find that impressive.  I mostly go on Mondays since they have a medium coffee for $1.

Bummed

I just got an email yesterday that the job I was finally hopeful about (since it was the first internship position I held) is going to be given to someone within the company.

I understand that I can't really fight that.  It's just that I technically haven't even received a phone call or interview yet about a job and it's real frustrating.  I've officially applied to 25 jobs now and have not received one phone call.

Grrrrr.  Boy do we need income...

2 years, 6 months, 3 weeks, and 6 days

is how long we have been married.  I know that thanks to the wedding counter thingy I found on Pam's blog and decided I wanted on mine too.

I searched for it because last night I had a dream that Jake divorced me.  I woke up this morning around 5:30am and had tears in my eyes.  When I have bad dreams, I tend to wake up Jake so that someone can bring me back to reality.  (He doesn't mind- and is amazingly sweet for allowing it)  Jake told me that he had been awake for about 10 minutes and was worried about me because apparently I sounded like I was choking.  I wasn't, but that's about how I felt.

I was very glad to wake up and realize that Jake and I are still married, and have been for 2 years, 6 months, 3 weeks, and 6 days.  They have been some of the most amazing days of my life.  I am SO blessed to have him.

I love you dear.

Week 7

The weather in Colorado is generally fabulous.  We're just starting week 7 of our training program, and not once have I thought that it might be a better idea to do our walking on a treadmill instead.

Until today.

Boo.  I had no idea it was supposed to snow today.  It hasn't really snowed that much, but it's colder than it usually is around here (around 25 degrees ... I know it's way worse in Iowa ... constantly).  Jake's schedule was pretty full today, so we weren't going to get to walk until after food closet tonight, so it would be dark and colder.  We decided that we should walk separately and on the treadmill.

Jake hasn't speed-walked yet.  I wonder what it will be like for him, cuz it was pretty boring for me.  Long story made short- the treadmill in the workout room stares at a blank wall with no tvs.  I HATE exercising indoors, but if I'm going to, it's way less boring when there is a tv to stare at.

Let's just say that after 5 minutes, I was appalled that I still had 40 minutes left.

But it wasn't really that bad.  My feet are more sore now though than they ever have been.  I wonder if it's because today was the first day of speed walking for 45 minutes as opposed to 30?  Weird.  Anyway, I hope that I can walk outside again on Wednesday!

Alex & Alisa Wood

We just recently went to our friend Alisa's wedding reception.  The dress for the evening was described as "come as you are."  It was pretty fun how everyone interpreted that differently.  It was a great time!  Here are a few pics from the night.

The happy couple!  Alex and Alisa Wood

Katie wanted every drop of champagne from the toasting bottle.

It was Alisa's reception.  Of course there was going to be dancing.  Some participated.

And then there were us, who absolutely hate dancing.  We humored a few people by dancing to the married couples' dance.

And Jake borrowed some money from Katie so that he could dance with Alisa for the dollar dance.  Yep...we didn't even have a dollar.  Poor, pitiful people we are.

Lovely picture with the beautiful bride!

Yeah, this is more like her.

Here are all of the people at the reception who graduated from Central College (minus Alex).  Note that Jake is the only guy to have moved out to Colorado.  Nice.

Temptation

So Jake had a leftover coupon I gave him for Christmas a couple years ago that I let him extend into this year.  The coupon was for a dessert of his choosing made by me.  He's decided recently that he wants to use it.

Except we're trying to lose weight. (Ok, let me clarify, we ARE losing weight, which is very exciting by the way.)  I've been trying to be strategic about when I made it so that we wouldn't eat too many high-calorie things right in a row.  Last night Jake and I sat down and figured out about how many calories would be in one piece if we made it into 8 slices.  It's just under 500 calories.  That's how many calories I'm supposed to be eating in one MEAL.  Yeah.  So we decided we'd be real careful, and we'd make the pie last at least two weeks.  This was part of our conversation last night.

Elizabeth: You really think we can control ourselves?
Jake: We're adults.  Seriously.  We can handle this.
Elizabeth: Yeah, but you're forgetting that we're addicted to food.

I felt confident enough to make it just a few minutes ago.  Except when I made it, there was too much pudding filling to fit into the pie, so I ate the leftover pudding mixture.  Then I called Jake and reminded him that I have an addiction.

That's ok though, because I won't eat a piece when he eats his first one.  So it's like I've already eaten my first piece, but it was fewer calories than if I had eaten the whole thing.

I can do this.

Seriously.
